Voted the ‘World’s Cleanest Industrial City’, Sheffield lies close to beautiful countryside that includes the popular Peak District National Park and the new 350-acre Earth Centre. The city was made famous as a key player in the metal industries, which were largely automated in the 1990s, forcing wide scale job cuts. However, Sheffield now maintains one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country due to its thriving service sector.
