Clear Channel's lineage includes many of the outdoor advertising pioneers and we are proud of our heritage as one of the legendary outdoor companies of the twentieth century.
The Clear Channel UK company can trace its billboard history back to More O'Ferrall in 1936 and the world famous street furniture brand Adshel which was launched in 1967.
1936: More O’Ferrall is founded.
1967: The Adshel brand is launched.
1996: The company is rebranded as More Group.
1998: Clear Channel Communications acquires More Group. Town & City billboard is bought and the Sainsbury’s contract is won.
2004: The company wins the malls POS contract.
2006: The company is rebranded as Clear Channel Outdoor. It buys Van Wagner in the UK and launches the Pinnacle brand.
2008: The digital roadside network is formed and the Interact mobile services division is launched. Bain Capital Partners LLC and Thomas H Lee Partners LP acquire the company.
2009: The digital malls network, national dry-posted billboards and WAVe technology are launched. William Eccleshare is appointed president and CEO of Clear Channel International.
2010: Clear Channel expands its digital mall network nationwide and its Sainsbury’s POS offering. Clear Channel launches the ‘Cromination’ - the Cromwell Road domination of six consecutive 96-sheets in one of London’s prime locations. Advertisers to book so far have included Nike, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Emirates and Tourism Australia. The world’s first ‘Real 3D’ out-of-home campaign is launched, developed by Twentieth Century Fox in association with Clear Channel Create and Posterscope. Matthew Dearden is appointed CEO of Clear Channel UK.
