Following a refurbishment, Thames View Skate Park re-opens today revitalised and ready to serve the residents of Dagenham.

The once neglected skatepark received a £40,000 revamp, funded by council partner Clear Channel UK and delivered by subcontractors JCS. The council also contributed by purchasing two new activity boards and new plants.

Working with the council and residents, Clear Channel UK’s upgrade to Thames View Skate Park includes new eco-friendly benches made from reclaimed wood, planters fitted at the site, alongside a thorough clean and a fresh, vibrant new lick of paint.

Clear Channel’s in-house Product Development Team designed and produced the furniture, inspired by ideas for the park’s design were conceived by third-year students as part of a partnership between the distinguished arts and design college, Central Saint Martins and media owner Clear Channel UK, which seeks to develop new and innovative future products for the benefit of the public.

The work has been carried out by Clear Channel UK as part of their social value commitment to the borough, with funding for the project being awarded to the skate park through a competitive application process in partnership with Barking and Dagenham Giving.

Attended by residents and councillors, the re-opening event included community plant potting as well as free refreshments provided for attendees.

The council’s social value policy requires that any organisation working with the council to provide goods or service over a £100,000 threshold must set out in their tender application how they can deliver wider economic, social or environmental benefits for the residents of Barking and Dagenham.
