Bauer Media Outdoor, in collaboration with Jamii, today announced the winners of the second instalment of Compass.

The partnership is a long-term initiative designed to empower and support independent Black-owned businesses in the UK through Out of Home advertising.

Since its inception in 2021, the success of Compass continues to build, with more than 350 applications submitted to the scheme this year.

The ten winners include Aaron Wallace, Capital Waste, Elliott Footwear, Impression Beverage/Jamaica Rum Vibes, Little OMO, Pat & Pinky’s, Raise Snacks, Treasure Tress, Slinger Staff, and Sheer Chemistry. A brief description of the winners can be found below.

Campaigns of the selected businesses will run across Bauer Media Outdoor’s Adshel Live screens, part of the biggest digital Out of Home network in the UK, starting from May 2023, with all campaigns running within the next 12 months.

Bauer Media Outdoor will also offer free design support to help create the advertisements, while any selected e-commerce brands will also be listed on Jamii’s marketplace.

Courtney Ismain, E-Commerce Manager at Jamii, says: “The ongoing success of Compass speaks to how impactful and necessary support for Black-owned businesses truly is. Not only did we receive an overwhelming number of applications this year, but we also saw an amazing variety of businesses take advantage of the initiative. While it was difficult to narrow the selection down to just 10 winners, we’re looking forward to seeing their campaigns shining brightly on the high street.”

Richard Bon, Joint Managing Director at Bauer Media Outdoor, says: “At Bauer Media Outdoor, we’re all about providing tangible, effective solutions that deliver on our commitment to being both a Platform for Brands and a Platform for Good; Compass does exactly that! Not only do we know how powerful Out of Home advertising can be, but we also understand how crucial it is to business success, and that’s why we’ll continue to support and uplift Black-owned businesses on the UK’s high streets however we can.”

Recent research conducted by Bauer Media Outdoor, in cooperation with Channel 4, The Good Side and Blacklight, demonstrates the need for initiatives like Compass, providing insight into the difficulties Black entrepreneurs face when establishing and growing their businesses.

Jamii was established in 2016 to promote the offering of Black makers and creators to wider audiences and currently lists over 250 small Black-owned British businesses.
