Newark-upon-Trent is a market town in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire. The town has a population of around 40,000 people whilst the Newark and Sherwood district is home to around 120,000 residents. It was a royalist stronghold during the English Civil War enduring three sieges before royalists later surrendered.
